The End of April in Peru

It is starting to get cold in Peru and Elder Johnson is ready for winter time. In church
this week, during priesthood class, he and his companion were asked to demonstrate
how to do home teaching. So he started with a gringo joke. He said, "After we finished,
a guy who everyone thought was just visiting, started to talk. He told everyone that he is
inactive and has been for 12 years but decided to bring his family to church that day.
He said he was really able to feel the spirit and feel at home but more than anything,
he was able to laugh a little bit(gringo joke) and that he was ready to come back to church.
"The church is true and wow, how amazing it is that we know it. Love, Elder Johnson"

Balloon Animal in Peru

This week, Elder Johnson stayed at an apartment where the water was shut
off so they had to take water dispenser jugs to the roof, fill them with water,
haul them down, and use them to shower. But luckily, as soon as he finished
his shower, the water turned back on. Maybe the balloon animal is for Owen.
He said, "I really want you all to know how powerful fasting is
and that Heavenly Fathers really does listen to our prayers. He knows
each one of us personally, even baby Owen(way to go Steven and Katrina!!!)

Another Johnson

Our exciting news this week happened in Rexburg, Idaho.
Owen Russell Johnson was born to Steven and Katrina on
Sunday, April 19. The new Dad then started another college
term on Monday.  Mom and baby are both doing well and
able to go home Tuesday.  We are so happy for them.

"Happy Birthday Owen!"
18 inches long but only 5 lbs.

Proselyting in Peru

"We were in a lesson teaching a man whose wife and
daughters are members. I started bearing my testimony
about faith and life and families and afterwards you could
see in his eyes that something had clicked inside him but
also that it wasn't because of the words I said but because
the spirit testified to him and I just happened to be talking
as well. I love you all and I love this work!!!"

Melkam Fasika !

We miss everyone at home but we do love the people here. There
are such good people and families here that we have a lot of hope
for the future of Ethiopia. This week was Easter in Ethiopia and
we are so grateful for the Atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
"...and mercy cometh because of the atonement; and the atonement
bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead; and the resurrection
of the dead bringeth back men into the presence of God; and thus
they are restored into his presence, to be judged according to their
works, according to the law and justice." Alma 42:23

Consejo

We didn't get photos this week but I found this one still on the EFY site. The good news is, Matt wrote a long email. The bad news is he wrote a lot in Spanish. We don't know what it says but he did answer some questions in English.
"Yes, I did get to watch conference  and it was amazing! I loved every second! Yes, I can understand my companion pretty much perfectly. I don't really think about speaking spanish, it just kind of comes out. This week for me was pretty busy because we had a consejo de la mision and then President Archibald came to our zone training.  We had a pretty nice turnout to conference but the sad thing is that a family showed up late and had lost our number, so instead of coming in, they went back home. But don't worry, they are coming this week.
I love you all and a million thanks for the pictures, emails and support. Make sure you all go back and listen to the talks from conference as soon as possible and follow the advice of the hermanos mayors!"
