Ugandan Game Drive

We attended a great couples conference in Uganda
where we learned a lot and were inspired.
We also went on a game drive and boat tour
where we were able to see lots of animals.
Click on the pics to see them closer.
Topi are born a fawn color and as they get older, their color changes.
Their front legs are longer than their rear legs and they are one of the
fastest animals.

Kob are the national animal. There are a lot of them and they remind me of antelope.

Cape Buffalo with a bird flying by.
Warthog

I loved the way the hippos twirled their
ears around in circles.
Can you see the crocodile below the hippos?

We drove to see the tree climbing lions. A
mother and her 2 cubs were just sleeping in a
tree which was okay with me since we were in
a van with nothing between us and them.
The sunsets and sunrises were beautiful.

This cape buffalo was looking at us.
Can you see the crocodile right to the front left of the bird and
below the hippos? The crocs have plenty of fish to eat right
now so they don't bother any other animals.

Even the butterflies look African.
Mongoose: A family that plays together stays together.

We stood on both sides of the equator .
Ugandan dancers at our resort.
The elephants were amazing. This is a young one but some of them were HUGE!
We saw them on our game drive, and in the water. There was even one that came to our resort
to shake the mango tree and eat the fruit he knocked off. We had to run back when he came towards us.

This monkey was high in a tree with her baby hanging on.

The Field is White already to Harvest

We drove past what looked like 3 generations
of men harvesting their grain by hand
with sickles. Dale wanted to give it a try.

An Ethiopian Market

While I shopped at a market, my
companion became friends with
some young men that lived there.
Then they wanted to help me shop.

Elder Makasi in Ethiopia

President Robert Chatfield is president of the
Kampala,Uganda Mission. He and Sister Chatfield
left their 6 daughters and their families at home
for 3 years while they are serving the Lord. Sister
Chatfield told the young elders, "While we are here,
you are our family.'
Elder Makasi and President and Sister Chatfield came to Addis
for a district meeting and an Employee Christmas Devotional.
Elder Makasi is an Area Authority Seventy and is truly a man
with Christlike attributes. We hope to follow his example. We
had a wonderful weekend of meetings and visiting branches.

Preparation Day in Peru at the Beach

He's not praying,
 he's playing football.
Good news, the dog that bit him this week
was vaccinated. He said he had a good training
about obedience and how it brings blessings.
He said, "It made me want to be more like the
 stripling warriors(not that I am a disobedient
missionary, I just want to be better)I really liked the
 Christmas Devotional Broadcast and
I am so happy we have this season to remember Christ and to try to be more like him.

Driving in Ethiopia

This pig seems to live at the DM

We enjoyed our time at the DMV
so Dale can get a license  drive the van.
His instructor was very friendly and liked to practice
his English and teach me Amharic.

We Are All Under the Same Moon

Wherever in the World We Are.
 Happy Thanksgiving!

Sand and Saenz in Peru

Matt at the top of a hill with a view
of the whole town behind him.

Elder Saenz made it to the mission.
He is Matt's good friend from South Jordan
that taught him how to play lacrosse.

"This Sunday was the Primary program and yes they
are the same in all languages. The kids sing loud, are
crazy, and sometimes say strange things into the mic
but over all are super awesome.
We found a really awesome single Dad who drives
a bus and his 2 kids. The only thing is, he is in the
process of changing his work schedule so he can come to church

Earthquake in Peru

Plantains and Eggs. I also added to my
list of strange foods this week and let
me tell you, chicken feet are not my
favorite.

Exercising on Preparation Day
This week there was an earthquake while we were knocking
doors and it was awesome because everyone came out of
their houses and so we talked to a lot of people!!!

This week I finished The Book of Mormon in Spanish. I just want  to say, I know that book is true and it is something extremely amazing and we should cherish it in our lives. I love the Gospel and you guys!!

Happy Halloween from Ethiopia

We bought a pumpkin and invited a few families to our home for a Halloween party.  The children enjoyed decorating bags and trick or treating to our upstairs doors.  We played fruit basket upset and ate doughnuts off a string without any hands.

Out of Addis

We traveled West of Addis through some beautiful
country and went to Addis Alum. Euclyptus trees are
chopped down leaving a stump about a foot high that
immediately starts growing up again.

A very old church on top of a hill with elaborate paintings
and a bell tower. The museum nearby used to be the home
of the Emperor Menelik. It was supposed to have historical
items and crowns from the Queen of Sheba but it was closed.

Tasting chick peas straight from the field.

A pump installed and pumphouse built by
LDS Charities to serve a farming community.

If you click on this photo you can see
people in this field cutting grain and
putting it into sheaves.

This man waved when he caught me
taking a picture of his donkey.
